Mel Karam, Head of Global Asset Management, KPMG
  • Discussing impacts of recent changes in Asia’s power market landscape
  • Is this the end of lump-sum turn-key contracts?
  • What are the implications for your long-term asset maintenance strategy?
  • The future of maintenance management: key pathways forward, preconditions for adoption and tips for easing the transition

Mel Karam

Head of Global Asset Management
Major moves by global power plant producer Ansaldo Energia (AEN) have been rocking the power sector. In end 2015, AEN finalised the takeover of major Alstom assets and technologies from General Electric - and in mid-2016, AEN won unlimited rights to use Siemens technology for heavy duty gas turbines. Today, it holds all rights to supply, servicing and upgrading for GT26 and GT36 heavy duty gas turbines along with all Siemens gas turbines. In this session, hear directly from the world’s next leader of gas turbine supply on market plans, new announcements and what this spells for Asia’s power market.

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM Technical Roundtables: Debating Causes of Failure & Recurrence Prevention

Feeling worn down by the never-ending battle against wear and tear, fatigue or sub-optimal operations? What issues are plaguing other power plants that use similar equipment? During our roundtables, hear from peers’ case studies and failure events while sharing your experiences and discussing ways to prevent downtime!

In 3 x 25-min sharing sessions (15-min break in between), speak directly with senior engineers and technical specialists working on thousand-megawatt plants! Learn and share on:

  • What sources of vulnerability have been identifi ed in other power companies using similar equipment? How are these being addressed?
  • Root causes behind unexpected equipment failure and actions taken
  • What are other technical specialists investigating during abnormal failure?

Roundtable 2: Issues in Rotating Equipment
